In “Dream,” MILYAM seems to be someone who is aware of how little she can say and use very few words. Her voice remains high and light, and a deep and heavy sound is heard underneath. They fit together so seamlessly. I imagined a large empty hall with someone standing in it, quiet, and letting the silence of the space outside their voice fill the space.
The music is dark, deep, but clear and easy to hear. There are little taps scattered throughout, almost as if it were little sparks. The sounds are contained in separate spaces which allow the listener to select any one sound and hear it individually. I really like the way this is wide and open even with so much going on.
The beat is consistent throughout the piece. It never seems hurried, and it moves confidently forward. After a while, I didn't pay attention to the beat anymore, I just went with it. It was like being in a quiet road, with nothing to distract me. It provides her with a platform to speak.
The song's best aspect is her voice. It's soft and light, but there is a confidence in her singing. All of this makes a difference, a small change in her tone, quiet breath or a little extra feeling in a word. It's intimate; it's as if she's speaking to you out of the earshot of the person next to you.
The heavy sounds playing with the light ones is something that keeps coming back to me. They're in equilibrium, neither dominating the other. This song has a nice sense of mystery and I loved that all the way through. It doesn't require you to explain all the details and leaves a memory in your mind.
MILYAM is definitely one of a kind. Her music is being released under her own label, MILYAM EMPIRE and she owns all her songs. This liberty is reflected in the music. Each decision she makes is authentic and true to her own style. That's what I believe, that confidence adds to the song's character.
Thanks to the song “Dream”, I have come to believe that MILYAM is a wonderful artist. She doesn't have to raise her voice or shout to get your attention. She carries it on her fingers from the first to the last. This song is strong but soft and calm. I immediately replayed it when it was over. I think this song deserves to be heard by many, many more.
